Listener: Now Playing (“the app”) is built to do one thing: identify music playing near your iPad and display it. This policy explains what that involves.
The app uses the device microphone continuously while “Always Listening” is turned on — a setting you enable explicitly, with a clear explanation, and can turn off at any time from within the app. Audio is processed on the fly to identify music; it is never recorded or saved by the app.
A brief audio fingerprint — not a recording — is sent to Apple’s ShazamKit service to check for a match against the Shazam catalog. This is Apple’s own service; we do not run or control it. No other audio or personal data is transmitted by this app.
Recognized tracks are kept in an on-screen history within the app, stored locally on your device. You can clear this history at any time from within the app. Nothing is uploaded to any server we operate, because there isn’t one.
The only third party this app communicates with is Apple’s ShazamKit / Shazam catalog service, used solely to identify music. See Apple’s own privacy policy for how they handle that data.
